IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER AT THE TIME OF DESIGNING A BUILDING DRAINAGE SYSTEM.

Drainage system is a very essential part of a building design or any residential project design, because it removes the waste of humans to its source of recycling or where it is to be recycled.

It becomes very necessary to understand some important points at the time of designing of building drainage system because if we don’t think crucially in this matter the outcome of the construction would be very bad. It can also leads to pollution if proper care is not taken into consideration, so below are some important points you should consider.

1 ) it’s advisable to lay the sewers by the sides of the building rather than below the building. (This will help at the time of maintenance and repairing of sewers, without disturbing the tenants or residents of the building)

2 ) drains should be laid straight between inspection chamber and manholes.

3 ) all the sharp holes and junctions should be avoided except chambers and manholes. (This will help to get the smooth flow of the drainage and waste to the manhole and chamber, thus reducing the inspection and maintenance hurdles).

4 ) the entire system should be properly ventilated from the starting point to the end point of disposal (providing proper ventilation to the manhole and drainage system will help to avoid pollution to the tenants.)

5 ) the house drain can be connected to the public sewers only if the public sewer is deeper than the house drain. (You should be careful if your connecting your house drains directly to the main sewer line because if the level of the sewer line is above your house drain then there is a chance of reversal of waste water in to your home).

6 ) the house drain should contain enough no. of traps at suitable intervals or points for efficient functioning of it. (House drain get harmful air when the human waste flow through it to the destination of disposal…so these harmful air should be removed form the pipes and so the trap are provided for proper functioning of it).

7 ) the house drains should be disconnected from the public sewers by providing intercepting trap, so as not to allow foul gases from public sewers to the house drains (generally we provide intercepting taps to stop the gases of sewer drains to enter in to the house drains).

8 ) joints of sewers should be water tight and should be properly tested before putting the drainage line in use. (All the joints should be water tight to avoid leakage of water from the joints).

9 ) lateral sewers should be laid at a proper gradient so that they will develop the self-cleaning velocity ( at the time of laying the pipes of sewers line , proper slope or gradient is maintain so  that sewer water develops self-acceleration towards its destination automatically).

10 ) the size of the lateral sewer should be such that they will not overflow at the time of maximum discharge. (At the time of deciding the size (i.e. diameter of the sewer pipe, one should consider the maximum discharge that is going to come from the sewers at the time of peck hours).

11 ) the sewage should be conveyed as early as possible after its formation to avoid formation of bad gases at the place of residents.

12 ) rain water from house is collected from the roof and it is allowed to flow freely on the road surface for catchment basin which convey it to the storm water drains. (Basically storm at the time of designing and positioning of storm water you should consider that the maximum rain water should be collected from the catchment basis by avoiding it to flow in the sewer lines).
