WHAT IS AFFORDABLE HOUSING ( AND ITS RAISING DEMAND IN INDA)
While the basic necessities of life – food,
clothing, and shelter – are increasingly becoming a luxury and UN-affordable, luxury items such as televisions, mobile phones, refrigerators,
etc. are become affordable! While we are often amazed at the progress our
country has made when we see an auto rickshaw driver with a mobile phone, we
fail to notice that he is still living in a slum-like dwelling. One of the
major factors that affect the overall growth of the country is housing
facilities
“Affordability” as a concept
is very generic and could have different meanings for different people based on
differences in income levels. Affordable housing refers to any housing that
meets some form of affordability criterion. Different countries have defined
affordable housing to present the economic potential of an individual buying a
house. But when it comes to our country it’s very difficult to define affordable
housing because at every square kilometre of the country, the dynamics of the
market are different.
Affordable and low-cost housing are often interchangeably
used, but are quite different from each other. Low-cost housing is generally
meant for EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) category and comprises bare minimum
housing facilities while affordable housing is mostly meant for LIG (Low income
groups) and MIG (medium income groups) and includes basic amenities like
schools, hospitals and other community facilities and services.
There are many projects on affordable housing is going on in
India as well as in other countries of the world. Our project on Affordable
housing is mainly focused on the study of various types of methodologies,
skills and techniques (precast
technology) which helps in reducing the cost of construction and the comparison
of conventional method of construction and precast technology which is widely
popular in all the countries of the world
