WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE ( RCC )REINFORCED CEMENT CONCRETE AND PER-STRESSED CONCRETE ?

The common thing in RCC and pre-stressed concrete is “CONCRETE”, but their very different when it comes to application and use. There are many disadvantages and advantages to use priestess concrete over reinforced cement concrete and they are simply explained below

Comparison between pre-stressed and ordinary Concrete

sr.no.
RCC (Reinforced Cement
Concrete )
Pre-stressed Concrete

1
30 to 40 % of total cross sectional area is utilized
100% cross sectional area is utilized
2
Section is uneconomical beyond spans of 10 to 12 m
Economical up to spans of 25 to 30 m
3
Self-weight of section is higher
Self-weight of section is lesser
4
Cracking and corrosion problems area more
No cracking and corrosion problems
5
Reinforcement is usually straight
Reinforcing tendons can be bent or have parabolic shapes
6
Tension is developed below neutral axis
The whole cross section is in compression
7
Stresses are developed only after external load is allowed
Stresses are developed before loading due to pre compressive load
